Rehabilitation Therapy

Rehabilitation Therapy - Dr. John Seaberg

Rehabilitation therapy can be part of both a nonsurgical treatment approach to an injury or the postoperative resumption of strength and range of motion.

When first starting rehabilitation therapy, your physical therapist will make an exercise plan specific to your needs and the type of activity to which you will return. Normally, they begin by focusing on reducing swelling and pain. Focus then moves to increasing flexibility, strength, and endurance. Therapy will almost always require exercise, usually relating to core exercises, stretching, weight lifting, and walking. Some physical therapists may help design an exercise program you can easily follow at home.

Therapists may also use manual therapy and other techniques such as hot, cold, water, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation during treatment.
